Bit over cautious at the start with little wind and a strong tide under us but not too bad a get away. Very
fluky winds to the Forts but eventually got the spinnaker up for the run to the NAB. Some interesting tactics
from a couple of the other boats who seemed to think there would be a colossal tide set approaching the
Tower but as the tide was only just on the turn as we got there it didn't make a lot of sense. Bit behind the
front of the fleet on the way back to the Forts but staying in the strongest tide looked the best option
especially as the wind had died over by the Island which let us catch up the front runners. The forecast had
been for 4 - 5 Westerly and going round the Forts it started to arrive so ended up with a heavy weather beat
to the finish which doesn't favour us. Not too bad at first but gusting up to 25 knots apparent as we rounded
Castle Point. Initially looked like we were destined for mid table obscurity but ended up in fourth which was
about as good as we could expect. Well done to Blazer for upholding the Laser 28 pedigree and an
interesting night in Cowes with an excellent curry and an encounter with a hen party in the Union.
