Peter Chartres got the postponed start spot on with the wind building just after the warning signal. Crowded
at the pin end of the line but followed Aquila through the final slot and got clear air away from the line.
Popped the Code Alpha as the wind came round and made good progress with the bigger boats not getting
away too much in front. Swapped to the normal spinnaker for the rest of the leg to North Head and clocked
the leaders as they rounded to see if they could hold their kites round to Hurst. As the wind was building all
the time we decided caution was the better part of valour so downed the kite for the quick leg up to Hurst.
Looking behind it was pretty obvious that keeping the kite up would have been a disaster as even the J Boats
couldn't hold their asymmetrics. Fast run down the Solent with the tide under us and lots of mental
calculations as to were we were in relation to the boats ahead. General consensus was that we could be on
for a podium but really pleased with the first place by just 35 seconds.
