Did our usual timed start but got caught up with Blazer just as we were ready to turn at one minute to go
and consequently were a bit late at the start. With adverse tide all the way to Hurst the pre race plan was to
hug the Island shore to keep out of the worst of it. Surprisingly a number of the boats decided to go down
the main channel in the strongest tide so we left them behind and rock hopped up to Yarmouth. Interesting
encounter with Black Rock which it would appear is in two bits with a nice channel through the middle. By
Hurst Xara had caught us and they soon put up their A sail and powered off. We got ours rigged but it was
too windy for us even once out past the Needles into clear water. Fast lumpy crossing to the Casquets and
did get the A sail up for the short run to the Little Russell. Blazer was ahead of us by this stage but we
managed to finish close enough behind to get them on corrected and a third overall behind the usual
suspects.
