Fairly busy start on the JOG line (East - West ) and a decent breeze requiring the number 3 and later on as the breeze built a reef.  Good beat down the Solent round a couple of the channel markers (West Lepe, Saltmead & Solent Bank) with the West Lepe - Saltmead leg going backwards and only one yacht hoisting there kite for the short leg.  Sailed past Solent Bank thinking we were heading for a different mark but no loss and then it was out through Hurst and heading for Needles Fairway.  As expected it got pretty lumpy in the Needles channel and beyond with over 26knts across the deck at which point we put the first slab in.  Rounding Fairway we took the reef out but reframed from hoisting the kite as it was prey much dead down wind and lumpy.  Spectrum got away from us at this point with there kite up but got that back later on.  One gybe into North Head then back through Hurst against the tide.  Most of the fleet headed for the mainland shore where there should have been less tide but we stuck in the main channel as there did not seem to be much tide against and we would be in a better position when it turned. As a consequence we got our position back on Spectrum.  Hoisted the kite once we were stable and carried it to the finish.  Two gybes on the way down the Solent one planned and one a little more reactive but nothing broken and all fingers retained. Finished just in from of Spectrum and a middle fleet position on handicap.  Great to have Colin Woodruff on board providing an extra pair of hands and additional Lase 28 expertise.
